Editorial Services

Every service at Represent Publishing is built around one goal: Getting your book to where it needs to be. Whether you're mid-draft and need a thinking partner, holding a finished manuscript that isn't quite there yet, or preparing to publish and want a professional eye on every detail—there's a service designed for exactly where you are.

All services are available individually or as part of a self-publishing package. Line editing and proofreading are available together at a 10% discount when booked at the same time.

Pricing is listed per word. Rates marked with * may vary based on project scope, genre, or complexity. Contact for a custom quote before booking.

Book Coaching

Book coaching is for writers who are actively drafting and want professional support as they write, not just at the end when the manuscript is done.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

  1. You submit one to two chapters per week

  2. I provide revision feedback and developmental notes

  3. We hop on a call every one to two weeks to brainstorm, troubleshoot, and talk through whatever the story needs.

  4. You keep writing new content while we strengthen what's already on the page.

When your first draft is complete, the coaching process includes a full developmental edit. A second read-through to refine my notes and give you a complete assessment to take into revisions.

Book coaching is ideal for writers who want accountability, a thinking partner who understands story structure, and the confidence of knowing a professional is in their corner from chapter one.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • Weekly chapter feedback and revision notes

  • Weekly/Bi-weekly brainstorming and development calls

  • Full developmental edit on completion of first draft

  • Color-coded assessment document with prioritized revision plan

  • Email support throughout

INVESTMENT:

Contact for a custom coaching quote based on manuscript length and timeline.

Developmental Editing

A developmental edit looks at the big picture of your manuscript. Structure, character arcs, pacing, point of view, plot consistency, and everything that affects whether your story is working the way you intend it to.

This is a two-read-through process:

  • The first read gathers information and flags concerns.

  • The second read goes chapter by chapter, diagnosing specifically what each section needs and how to address it.

By the end, you receive a detailed color-coded assessment document that tells you exactly what to prioritize, what to address next, and what's already working and needs to be protected.

A one-hour call is included to walk through the assessment together, and email support is available throughout your revision process.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • Two full read-throughs of your complete manuscript

  • Detailed color-coded assessment document

  • Chapter-by-chapter feedback with specific revision direction

  • Plot, structure, character, pacing, POV, and continuity notes

  • One-hour post-assessment call

  • Ongoing email support during revisions

Act By Act Developmental Edit

The Act by Act edit follows the same thorough two-read process as a full developmental edit, but it is broken into manageable sections rather than delivered all at once.

Instead of receiving feedback on the entire manuscript at the end, we work through it act by act or in chapter blocks. You receive your assessment for each section, revise, and then we move forward.

This approach is ideal for writers who find large amounts of feedback overwhelming, writers with ADHD who work better in focused chunks, and writers who want to revise as they go rather than waiting until the full manuscript is complete.

The important caveat to know going in: Because we're working in sections, early chapters may need minor revisiting once the full manuscript is complete. This is normal and expected, and if a line edit follows, that pass will catch anything that needs adjustment.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • Everything included in a full developmental edit, delivered in agreed-upon sections

  • Flexible pacing based on your revision timeline

  • Check-in calls between sections as needed

INVESTMENT:

Contact for a custom quote based on manuscript length and preferred section structure.

Line Editing

A line edit focuses on the sentence-level experience of your manuscript. This is the pass that makes your writing shine.

  • Prose clarity

  • Voice consistency

  • Dialogue

  • Rhythm

  • Word choice

  • Flow

  • Fact checking

Line editing comes after developmental editing. The story needs to be working before we focus on the sentences. Otherwise, you risk polishing prose that may need to change in revision.

If you haven't had a developmental edit yet, a free consult can help determine the right starting point for your manuscript.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • One full read-through with detailed in-manuscript edits and comments

  • Prose, voice, dialogue, rhythm, and word choice notes

  • Recurring language pattern flags

  • Brief summary of recurring patterns for your reference

INVESTMENT:

Proofreading

Proofreading is the final pass before your manuscript goes to an agent, publisher, or is uploaded.

At this stage, the story is working and the prose is polished. Proofreading catches what everything else missed.

  • Spelling

  • Punctuation

  • Formatting consistency

  • Continuity details

  • And the small errors that have a way of surviving every previous round of editing.

This is not a developmental or line editing pass. If your manuscript still needs structural or prose work, proofreading is not the right starting point. A free consult can help you identify what your manuscript actually needs.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • One full read-through focused on errors and inconsistencies

  • Spelling, punctuation, grammar, and formatting checks

  • Continuity and consistency flags

  • Brief summary of recurring patterns for your reference

INVESTMENT:

Self-Editing Tools

Not every writer is at a stage where professional editing makes sense, and not every writer can invest in full editorial services right now.

The Represent Publishing Self-Editing Workbook series gives serious writers access to the same framework a professional editor uses, at a price point that works for where they are.

Each workbook walks you through a specific editing pass,

  • Developmental Edit

  • Line Edit

  • Proofreading

with detailed guidance, worksheets, and tools designed to help you see your own manuscript clearly.

Writers who work through a self-editing workbook, and then later decide to book a professional service, receive a 10% discount on their first edit.

The Scholarship Program

Represent Publishing offers a limited number of scholarship spots each season for indie authors who are serious about their work but facing financial barriers to professional editing.

Scholarship pricing is available on a case-by-case basis and is not publicly advertised.

If you're an indie author who would benefit from editorial support and cost is a barrier, reach out directly at representpublishing@gmail.com and tell me about your project. Availability varies by season.

This program exists because great stories deserve editorial support regardless of budget. It is not a discount for anyone who asks. It is reserved for writers who genuinely need it.

Not Sure Where To Start?

A free 30-minute consult is the easiest way to figure out what your manuscript actually needs. We'll talk about where you are, where you want to be, and what makes the most sense for your book and your budget.

No pressure, no commitment.
