Writer Spotlight – C. E. Keefer

All month for Women’s History Month, we will be featuring women indie authors! Follow along every Tuesday and Thursday this month to learn about new writers and new reads.

Introduce Yourself

My name is C.E. Keefer. I am a mom of two and spend my time homeschooling them when I am not writing. I have been an avid book worm since I learned how to read. My parents got me a library card as they could not keep up with my habit, as they put it. I mainly write fiction ranging from young adult to adult depending on which series I am working on.

How did you start writing?

When I was a kid I loved coming up with short stories. I didn’t always write them down, but I would pour them out to my family. Then I began to fill notebooks with stories and poetry. In high school, I took a writers workshop class. It was great because I learned so much about how to be a better writer and got an English credit. I took a few years off from writing once I had kids but thankfully found my way back into it.

What is your writing process like?

My writing process looks like a mess to anyone not in my brain. I have many writer friends who have these beautifully drawn out outlines. Their stories are guided and structured. I on the other hand am what you would call a “pantser.” I go where the story takes me. I have main points I know need to be hit but kind of let the story get there organically. Though honestly this sometimes causes frustration when my characters go opposite where I would have wanted the story to go. You can find my workspace covered in sticky notes keeping track of certain events.

What inspired you to write The Abaddon Series? What is it about?

The Abaddon Series originally started as a Dungeon and Dragons Campaign. I played with a group of friends and it was my turn to be the Game Master. I was talking over all the ideas with my husband about how I wanted it to go. He reminded me that I couldn’t control it once I opened it up to the guys. He said if I wanted the story to go a certain way I needed to make it a book. So I came up with something else and turned it into my current series.

Do you have any other books published/are you working on anything new?

Book two of the Abaddon Series is set to be released later this year. I am also working hard to finish the third and final installment in the series.

In The Wings is an adult werewolf series that has been itching to be written.

Do any authors influence your writing?

I would not say a specific author has influenced my writing. Though I love reading and I feel as a writer to be better you must also read. The more you read the better you are able to pick up on what works and what doesn’t. Not to say what has worked for one will work for you as well. But I pay attention to how things are described, emotions are portrayed, and the way relationships build. I try to take it all in to better my own writing.

What is your favorite piece of writing advice?

Write. I know there have been many days I stared at my keyboard intensely waiting for inspiration to hit. Unfortunately, more often than not nothing came to mind. However, I would still write something. It could be in my current work in progress or just a short story. Sometimes writing anything will inspire you to write what you need to get out.

Time to promote you! How can people find you? What should they look out for next?

I want to say thank you for taking the time for the interview. I have my author website where updates on new books can be found. The website is I have an Instagram dedicated to my writing @c.e.keefer. Later this year they should look for The Rune of Light (The Abaddon Series Book 2) on Amazon!
