I’m J.R. Mason!
Genre: Narrative nonfiction
After the first book, I said I was NEVER writing another one. It was the most exhausting thing I’ve ever done in my life. Aaaaand… here I go again. 36k words into Book II.
I’ve played the trumpet since sixth grade.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Mass Communication/Advertising.
I’ve run my freelance marketing and graphic design company since 2009.
What is your writing process like?
In a word, chaotic. It’s all over the place and totally random. I wake up in the middle of the night and start dictating stories into my phone to email it to myself.
What inspired you to write Confessions of a Sane Single Woman? Tell us more about the book!
For the past decade, I have been posting my crazy and horrific love life on social media. It got so bad that friends would ask to hear about my weird and unbelievable dates for a good laugh when they were having a bad day. This went on for so long that they began to request a book, but I never had the time. I then got furloughed at the start of the pandemic so I had nothing BUT time. Fortunately, all of these hilarious stories were well-documented on social and youtube, so it helped the writing process along a lot!
Do you have any other books published/are you working on anything new?
Confessions is my first literary creation. The sequel, Soulmate Setbacks, will be released this summer! It picks up about fifteen minutes after Book I ends. (Totally disturbing that there is enough hilariously tragic content in my life for a second book.)
What is your favorite piece of writing advice?
Just start writing. It doesn’t have to make total sense right now. As you get the info onto the page, it will all eventually come together. It’ll take work, but it will work out.
Time to promote you! How can people find you? What should they look out for next?
Soulmate Setbacks, Book II of the Confessions Series coming summer 2022!
