About Chelsea Lauren

I became an editor by accident. I stayed because I couldn't imagine doing anything else.

Represent Publishing started in 2018 as something entirely different: A publishing imprint for my own books. Then friends started asking for help.

Could I look at their manuscript? Could I help them figure out self-publishing? Could I tell them honestly what wasn't working?

I could. And I did. And somewhere in the process of finishing my Master's degree in Creative Writing and English, earning my online teaching certificate in Creative Writing, and realizing that the feedback I kept giving to my classmates was the thing every professor kept pointing to, I understood what I was actually supposed to be doing.

The editing grew organically. It started with book coaching and developmental editing. It expanded into line editing and proofreading as my skills and education deepened. What began as one writer helping other writers has become a complete editorial support system, built from eight years of working closely with authors at every stage of the writing and publishing process.

About

Chelsea Lauren

On specializing in romance and fantasy:

Romance found me first because I love it as a reader. Fantasy found me because a few brave clients decided to bet on me. Suddenly, I was a fantasy editor who couldn't imagine stopping. Right now, my client work runs heaviest in fantasy and thriller suspense, but romance is where my heart lives as a reader and an editor. If you write romance, I want to hear from you.

On what it's actually like to work with me:

My clients tell me they feel loved and prioritized. That they can be really vulnerable about their work, the kind that's hard to show anyone, and that I'll lift them back up no matter how discouraged they feel about their manuscript.

That matters to me more than almost anything else about this work. Writing is isolating in a way that's hard to explain to people who don't do it.

You spend months or years inside a story that exists entirely in your own head, and then you have to hand it to someone and ask them to tell you the truth about it. That takes courage. I don't take it lightly.

Working with me is collaborative. It's a conversation, not a transaction. You can storyboard, express concerns, ask questions, change your mind, and say, "I don't know." We'll figure it out together.

Your book doesn't exist in a vacuum and neither does this process.

A few other things worth knowing:

I'm neurodivergent, which means I understand firsthand what it looks like when a brain works differently, and I've built my services to accommodate that, including an Act by Act editing option for writers who find large amounts of feedback overwhelming.

I'm a mom to a toddler named Oliver, which means I run this business with genuine constraints on my time, and I respect yours accordingly. I'm based in New York and work with authors worldwide.

My passion for this work extends well past the paycheck—sometimes to my husband's frustration. The stories consume me. I'm always thinking about how to make this better, how to serve writers more fully, how to build something that actually reflects what serious fiction deserves.

I have a Master's degree in Creative Writing and English, an online teaching certificate in Creative Writing, and eight years of professional editorial experience across romance, fantasy, dystopian fiction, and thriller suspense.

What I believe:

Every serious writer deserves access to professional editorial support—not just the ones who can afford the highest price point. That belief is built into every service, every package, and every product at Represent Publishing.

Your story deserves to be published. You deserve support getting it there. That is also why Represent Publishing offers payment plans, as well as scholarship spots (discounted rates) for indie authors who could use the assistance.
